Alinghi Red Bull Racing is the Swiss team that will participate in the America’s Cup 2024 in Barcelona. We are currently based in Barcelona with all our team (and our winning boats), being the first team to settle in Barcelona to prepare this competition while our team in Switzerland is building our boat for the final Race in 2024.
We are looking for a new profile for our On-Water Operations Team as Support Boat Captain. This is a support role that assists with the daily on-water operations and chase boat team. This includes captaining support boats, assisting with chase boat maintenance all with a special emphasis on safety.
FUNCTIONS
Support Boat Captain
- Captain chase boats
- Ability to Captain a variety of boat types and lengths
- Knowledge of vessels capabilities and limitations
- Communicating with other vessels via radio to exchange information about weather conditions, hazards or other navigational concerns
- Towing and side-tow manoeuvrers
- Electronic navigation GPS positioning
- Monitor engine status and fuel management
- Physical stamina for high-speed vessels
Maintenance of Fleet
- Assist with fleet engine maintenance schedule
- Assist with compiling spare parts list
- General upkeep and maintenance of chase boats, parts, and servicing
Chase Boat Workshop
- Upkeep of chase boat workshop tidiness, tool upkeep, and maintenance
- Assist with Radio communications and charging
Safety
- Assist with on-water safety operations and exercises
- Assist with implementing on-water safety plan
- Assist Paramedic and Rescue diver when required
REQUIRED PROFILE:
Have at least 10 years’ experience in Power and Sail boating. Have a sound understanding of sailing and the speeds involved in the Americas Cup boats.
- Have experience in captaining vessels exceeding speeds of 45 knots and looking after its crew onboard. Be able to work in a team environment able to communicate and listen to instructions during operations on and off the water. Anticipate sail/power boat manoeuvrers, crossings and be aware of your surrounds all time while being in command of a high-speed power boat.
- Navigation and course plotting
- RYA Advanced Power boating licence or equivalent
- VHF Radio Licence
- Spoken Languages: English Proficient/Advanced (C1, C2)
- Basic First Aid
- Basic Outboard Engine Knowledge
- Basic boatbuilding and composite repairs
- Team player
